Marizanne Kapp’s five-for-20, which included a devastating double-wicket maiden, was the highlight of a 125-run rout of England that sent South Africa into their first-ever 50-over World Cup final. Kapp’s performance was a masterclass in seam bowling.
Chasing 320, England’s top order was left in ruins by Kapp. She bowled Amy Jones with a “nip-backer” and dismissed Heather Knight for a duck, leaving England at one for three.
Kapp, who also became the all-time leading World Cup wicket-taker, returned to take three more wickets, including two in two balls, to finish off England’s middle order.
This bowling domination was in support of a massive total, 319 for seven, set up by captain Laura Wolvaardt. Wolvaardt was exceptional, scoring 169.
Her innings was defined by its incredible acceleration, as she added 69 runs from just 28 balls at the death, an assault England’s bowlers could not withstand.
