A New Era at Hillsborough: Chansiri Out, Administration In, Fans Return

Date:

A tumultuous chapter in Sheffield Wednesday’s 158-year history has ended, forcing the beginning of a new one. Owner Dejphon Chansiri, after years of financial mismanagement, has placed the club into administration, a move fans described as “inevitable.”

The Supporters’ Trust, while lamenting the administration, declared it was “overjoyed” to have Chansiri “out of our club for good.” In a sign of the regime change, seats spelling out the owner’s name were being removed from the North Stand almost immediately.

This “reset” comes at a heavy price. The EFL has deducted 12 points, leaving the Owls with a mountain to climb from -6 points. However, manager Henrik Pedersen called it a “fresh restart,” stating, “We knew… it cannot continue.”

Administrators from Begbies Traynor are now in control, tasked with stabilizing the club and finding a new owner. Their immediate focus will be on ensuring the club can continue to operate while marketing it and the Hillsborough stadium to potential buyers.

After months of protests and boycotts, the Supporters’ Trust has issued a rallying cry. “The phase of resistance has achieved its goal – now begins the phase of renewal,” a statement read, urging fans to return in their thousands for Saturday’s game to help the club “rebuild from the ground up.”
