“Israel Will Do What It Needs To Do”: Trump’s Barely Veiled Threat to Hamas

Date:

In a statement carrying a barely veiled threat, US President Donald Trump declared that if Hamas rejects his 20-point peace plan, “Israel will do what it needs to do.” This message gives a clear American endorsement for decisive Israeli military action should the militant group fail to comply within the 3-4 day deadline.

Trump’s warning is designed to force Hamas’s hand, leaving no doubt about the alternative to accepting the deal. He has repeatedly emphasized the strength of the international coalition behind the plan, which includes not only Western allies but also Arab and Muslim nations, effectively stripping Hamas of any potential diplomatic cover.

The plan itself calls for Hamas’s complete surrender. The group must disarm, release all hostages, and cease to govern Gaza. If they agree, the war that has killed over 66,000 Palestinians will end, Israeli troops will pull out, and a massive international aid effort will begin to rebuild the territory.

The conflict, which began with Hamas’s attack on October 7, 2023, has devastated the region. The US proposal is being presented as the only viable way to prevent further bloodshed and stabilize the situation, but it places the entire burden of choice on Hamas.

As Hamas leaders review the terms, Trump’s words about Israel’s impending action hang over their deliberations. Their response will determine whether the region moves towards a fragile peace or braces for an escalation of unprecedented scale.
