Netanyahu Defends Israel’s Actions in Gaza, Rejects Genocide Allegations at UN

Date:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations General Assembly with a firm denial of allegations that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza. In a speech marked by controversy, Netanyahu defended Israel’s military actions, labeling the accusations as false and emphasizing the necessity of these actions for national security.

Netanyahu also addressed Israel’s stance on Iran, describing the decision to attack as straightforward and asserting that some countries privately support Israel’s efforts. Despite this, his speech was met with protest, as numerous delegates exited the General Assembly hall in opposition to his remarks. Netanyahu criticized those who walked out, accusing them of not recognizing Israel’s right to self-defense.

In his speech, Netanyahu cited the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths, to justify Israel’s military actions. He extended gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his support against Iran, further highlighting the international dimensions of Israel’s security concerns.

Addressing criticisms, Netanyahu rejected claims of Israeli war crimes and denied that the country’s actions in Gaza amounted to genocide. He also defended Israel’s policies regarding the West Bank, while condemning violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians, stating that such violence should not be tolerated.

The address comes amid ongoing international scrutiny of Israel’s conduct in Gaza and debates over the future governance of Palestinian territories. Netanyahu reiterated his stance against establishing a Palestinian state under his leadership and expressed skepticism about the Palestinian Authority’s role as a peace partner.
