In a remarkable display of courage and quick thinking, four passengers aboard a flydubai flight from Dubai to Israel played a crucial role in averting a potential disaster. Israeli President Isaac Herzog has announced his intention to recommend these passengers for the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism in recognition of their actions.
The incident unfolded when one pilot attacked the other in the cockpit of the aircraft. Yaniv Hayoun, Zvika Manes, and Asaf Rajuan were among the passengers who responded swiftly by restraining the attacker, while Hayoun also assisted with the aircraft’s controls. Dr. Shota Musayev, another passenger, provided immediate medical care to the injured pilot, ensuring his safety until the plane could make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.
President Herzog praised the passengers for their bravery and decisive actions, which he said were instrumental in safeguarding the lives of everyone on board. He also expressed gratitude to the Indian captain, Smit Machchhar, for his handling of the situation during the emergency.
The President plans to present the passengers’ heroic actions to the advisory committee that evaluates candidates for the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism. This award is one of the highest civilian honors in Israel, recognizing acts of bravery and selflessness.
Herzog’s acknowledgment of the passengers’ bravery highlights the importance of preparedness and calmness in crisis situations, illustrating how ordinary citizens can become heroes when faced with extraordinary circumstances.
