At the United Nations General Assembly, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi called for renewed diplomatic efforts to address global conflicts and rebuild international cooperation. He expressed concern over a growing global trust deficit, highlighting the war in Ukraine as a critical issue needing resolution through diplomacy and negotiations.
Tileuberdi condemned recent drone attacks on Kazakhstan’s oil export infrastructure and commercial vessels in the Black Sea. He warned that such incidents could threaten navigation, international trade, and global energy supplies, urging for diplomatic solutions to prevent further escalation.
On the Middle East, Kazakhstan reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution, advocating for an independent and viable Palestinian state coexisting peacefully with Israel. Tileuberdi emphasized political and diplomatic efforts as crucial for a lasting settlement and expressed Kazakhstan’s readiness to aid in Gaza’s stabilization through civilian reconstruction and support for food security and digital government services. He also announced Kazakhstan’s intention to join the Abraham Accords.
Addressing the situation in Afghanistan, Tileuberdi highlighted its stability as vital for the security and development of Central Asia. He urged for coordinated international engagement via the United Nations, emphasizing that humanitarian assistance should be coupled with long-term strategies to tackle poverty, displacement, and economic dependence.
Tileuberdi also renewed Kazakhstan’s call for nuclear disarmament, offering to host high-level discussions among nuclear-armed states. He referenced Kazakhstan’s experience in closing the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site and relinquishing its nuclear arsenal post-independence as a model for disarmament efforts. He stressed the importance of respecting international law and fulfilling commitments to restore global trust.
Additionally, Kazakhstan supported greater representation for Asia, Africa, Latin America, developing countries, and middle powers in the UN Security Council. During the General Assembly, Tileuberdi engaged in discussions with UN officials and foreign ministers on topics including UN reform, regional connectivity, energy, investment, and transport, with specific mention of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and sustainable development cooperation in Central Asia and Afghanistan.
