China-Kazakhstan Economic Partnership Enhanced During Shanghai Summit

At the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, a significant meeting took place between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, highlighting the robust strategic partnership shared by their countries. The leaders focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors, reinforcing their commitment to a strong bilateral relationship.

President Xi proposed aligning the development strategies of China and Kazakhstan, with an emphasis on expanding trade, cross-border e-commerce, and initiatives in energy, transport, and the digital economy. He underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in artificial intelligence, education, healthcare, and science. Additionally, Xi encouraged further engagement through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, aiming to strengthen their international cooperation.

Kazakhstan’s President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, recognized China as his nation’s most significant foreign policy partner. He expressed a keen interest in broadening collaboration in key areas such as trade, investment, transportation, agriculture, and energy. Tokayev also voiced support for joint efforts in AI governance, marking it as a pivotal area for future cooperation between the two countries.

Following their discussions, both leaders attended the signing ceremony of several cooperation agreements. These agreements covered a range of fields, including trade, transport, finance, and media, reflecting the comprehensive nature of their partnership. The meeting underscored the commitment of China and Kazakhstan to deepen their ties and pursue mutual benefits through strategic collaboration.
