After an intense second day at the Solheim Cup, the United States has caught up with Europe, leveling the score at 8-8. Jennifer Kupcho’s exceptional performance played a crucial role in denying Europe a lead, with her stunning finish being the highlight of the day.
Europe found it challenging to secure significant results from Charley Hull and newcomer Lottie Woad. The English duo faced a tough day, losing both of their matches on Saturday. Their struggles included a significant 6&5 defeat to Alison Lee and Lauren Coughlin in the morning, followed by a narrow final-hole loss to Yealimi Noh and Andrea Lee in the afternoon session.
Despite these challenges, Europe showed resilience during the morning foursomes. Maja Stark teamed up with Linn Grant to defeat Allisen Corpuz and the world’s top-ranked player, Nelly Korda. Meanwhile, Leona Maguire alongside Esther Henseleit collected another point for Europe against Kupcho and Rose Zhang. Notably, rookies Mimi Rhodes and Nastasia Nadaud also made their mark with a victory of their own.
The afternoon fourballs added to the day’s drama. Noh and Andrea Lee bested Hull and Woad, while Kim and Zhang secured another win for the U.S. team. Europe seemed poised to take the overall lead as Carlota Ciganda and Céline Boutier were ahead by two holes against Kupcho and Lindy Duncan. However, Kupcho shifted the momentum with a remarkable 90-foot shot from off the green on the 17th hole, followed by a 30-foot birdie on the final hole, clinching another vital point for the U.S.
As the competition heads into its final day, with 12 matches remaining, the defending champions from the United States need six points to retain their title. Europe, on the other hand, requires 6.5 points to reclaim the trophy, with the momentum now appearing to favor the American team.
